"There are scratches on these lenses but it looks like I landed in the past again".
"Can you share some of your impressions, please?"
"The Lane is quieter now. Early in the morning. The stall is closed. And I see lots of garbage cans. A scruffy man with a sack is opening the cans and it looks as if he is going through the content".
"Ah, a morning star. He will probably sell his finds to one of the vendors at the flea market in the old quarter. Waterlooplein".
"Did you go to the flea market as a child?"
"Only once, with a friend of my parents. I was a boy of five. The smell was horrible but it was quite interesting to watch the bargaining between customers and vendors. Lots of slang words".
"And did you go back when you grew up?"
"Yes, from the age of fifteen or sixteen. And I became a regular at the age of nineteen. That was the start of my glasses collection. You could buy cat eye glasses for one guilder or even less. Two guilders would be the equivalent of one euro".
"None of the glasses in your box has a bad smell. You must have cleaned them with care".
"Always. Newly arrived glasses always get an ultrasonic bath. Maintenance is like washing the dishes".
"The garbage cans must have been heavy by the looks of them".
"Yes, they were, especially if you had to carry them down the stairs. But at least they created no plastic soup in the oceans".
"It's a bit chilly. Can I do one pose for you and then return?"
"Yes, please"
