For decades, Rodenstock had the nice habit to give the name of a girl or a woman to each new series of frames. Tanja was one of their bestsellers in the early 1960's. My collection hosts several Tanja glasses. The remarkable thing about the series is that the frame either suits a model perfectly or not at all. There is nothing in between. Chanel is only the fourth model posing in these Tanja bifocals and in my opinion it's a perfect match. The models who preceded Chanel were Elena (first weblog), Sandra (second weblog) and "beehive" Nefeli from Athens (third weblog) who declared the Tanja bifocals her top favorite. The reason? The glasses reminded Nefeli of her late grandmother who sported Tanja glasses at some stage in life. Chanel did not have similar sweet memories but she liked the effect of the glasses and she was absolutely right!
