The collaboration between Breitner and Geesje ended in 1897 when she emigrated to South Africa. She died of tuberculosis at the age of 22. A sad end to a fascinating story that was only revealed when the old photos were discovered. On the positive side, Geesje was among the first art models whose identity has come to light. The famous paintings and the photo studies immortalized her.
End of story. Time to get back to normal vintage glasses....
