Chanel 159
Glasses: Silhouette 68, early / mid 1970's
[L: -3.25; c-1.00 v / R: -3.25; c-1.50 v / bif add 2.50]
The early 1970's were great years for innovative frame design. Many brands experimented with new materials and especially with new frame shapes. One of the brands that stood out was Silhouette from Austria. They started designing and manufacturing frames in 1964. Their international breakthrough took place during the early 1970's. Unlike Rodenstock, Silhouette did not give names to their frames. Instead, they simply stamped a serial number on each newly designed frame. Silhouette glasses with low serial numbers are now quite rare. Here Chanel is showing an example of the early Silhouette style. I only took three or four pictures to speed things up. The canopy of the old trees did not give us enough protection and we were already discussing to head for a more comfortable location.
