But let's talk glasses.... Rodenstock started in 1877 and they have been a household name in the world of glasses for at least sixty years. Most of their frames were designed for trend followers rather than trendsetters. Rodenstock often gave a new group of frames the name of a lady - a nice habit. Nina, Sandra, Cora, Alice, Clarina, Flora, Asna, Bettina, Tanja, Silvana, Celia, Maya, Anita.... the list of names is endless. Around 1980, Rodenstock also started a "Lady" series and a "Young Line" series. These frames all had serial numbers, indicating a chronology.
My collection hosts well over a hundred Rodenstock glasses. It would be interesting to know the year of manufacture of these glasses. A request to the Dutch branch of the company received a positive answer but eventually nothing happened. A pity! Anyway, there has never been anything wrong with my memory and in the case of Silhouette (who kindly met a similar request) their data confirmed my educated guess in nine out of ten cases. The material and style of these brown "Arabelle" glasses is characteristic for the first half of the 1970's.
