Dana 063

Here Dana is posing in another treasure from the "Waterlooplein" flea market. Other couture houses followed in the slipstream of the first Christian Dior collection. These solid Pierre Cardin glasses are a fine example. The style is by no means revolutionary but seventies through and through. Whoever their first owner was, she must have liked her Cardin glasses a lot. Both frame and lenses show the wear and tear caused by many years of full time use.
Dana is not alone in her preference for discrete frames. A lovely Danish woman in small silver glasses tickled me back to life, shortly after my divorce in 1989. My bedroom was initially a shock to her. One of the walls was decorated with giant mirrors. In front of the mirrors hung a perspex construction with hundreds of small holes drilled in it. And each pair of holes kept a pair of vintage prescription glasses in place. The construction looked fantastic at night with only the bed lamps shining. After a few days her curiosity took over and she asked if she could try some of the glasses. Of course, if you know your prescription. She mentioned it to me and I handed her the Pierre Cardin glasses. She was flabbergasted by the perfect match. The glasses gave her perfect eyesight but she was shocked by the "horrendous" frame. She stayed a full week and we always remained friends. She is immortalized in my song "Viqueen at the wheel", written a few days after she left. Her song ended up as the trailer on my solo CD "Crystal Veil" (2007) and she is proud of it till this very day.
