I remember this lens type well. Back in 1980 my wife chose a large rimless frame rather similar to the glasses shown here except that it was less angular. My wife had a considerably higher prescription than Chanel. Minus six with significant astigmatism. High index lenses did not exist in those days and the optician warned us that the rims of the lenses would be a centimeter thick. He showed us two ways to avoid this problem. He could split the thick rims in three parts, each under an angle of 45 degrees, against a substantial extra cost. The second option was to have the rims faceted like the pair shown here to great effect by patiently posing Chanel. The additional cost would double the price of the glasses. Sadly, our budget was even too limited for the first option. My wife got her large rimless pair but she was not pleased with the wall of glass seen "en profil".
