These vintage bifocals were sent to me as a gift last year by a friendly collector in the U.K. Their first owner was a German lady called Nicole who had her full name stamped on the right arm of the frame. Half a century ago, glasses were quite expensive and having your name stamped on the frame was a precaution taken by many elderly ladies in case their glasses would get lost. Again, Carla is the first model who posed in this pair. Note the circle shaped reading segments. If my memory serves me correctly, this lens type became quite popular in the early 1960's. Our late Queen Juliana contributed to the popularity of this lens type when she started wearing cat eye glasses full time in the mid 1960's. It's certainly more discrete than the traditional bifocal lenses with a straight demarcation line. These lenses remained popular until progressive lenses took over during the 1970's.
