Tereza 014

Posing as a "Lady behind crystal veil" implies a journey through the history of fashion. Here Tereza is making the acquaintance with the new wave in fashion that put a sudden end to the cat eye era in 1964. The new style was small and compact. A splendid example of the style is shown here by Tereza to great effect. What sets these glasses apart is that the frame is made of wood. I clearly remember seeing a small collection of wooden glasses in the shop window of an Amsterdam optician in 1966. "Wow, wooden frames....". Would the novelty become popular? Somehow there was doubt in my mind. My premonition was right. Within a few months the small collection of wooden frames had disappeared from the shop window and I don't remember even a single sighting in the streets. But there is always a second chance for the keen observer. Thirty years later I discovered these wooden glasses in a charity shop and recognized them straightaway. Yes, this was definitely one of the wooden frames from that optician's shop in Amsterdam. Good to know that at least one woman had the guts to buy wooden glasses! The lenses are a touch above Tereza's prescription and you can see some tension in her eyes but this soon disappeared when the short posing series went under way.
