Tereza 116
Tereza's best portrait in the Beate glasses by Rodenstock mark the end of a fantastic photo shoot with marvelous posing. Tereza is the 88th Lady behind Crystal Veil.
I posted a well deserved credit note with praise for this extraordinary model on Model Mayhem and it makes sense to repeat it here.
Tereza is a gem. She understood directions in a split second, translating them into perfectly natural posing with the expression exactly as required. This enabled us to work at high speed, yet there was no rush. The flow was fantastic. Tereza has the full gamut of expressions, all quite subtle, never over the top. She posed in two dozen different prescription glasses and she managed to make each pair look as if they were her own. I knew that Tereza would be good but in reality she was ten times better. A real ambassador showing that ladies can look beautiful in strong prescription glasses. It was a great pleasure to work with such a highly motivated model. Tereza has a unique look and a niche of her own. I highly recommend her to any photographer with a clear concept.
So far the praise on Model Mayhem. Time for a personal note. Tereza, it was a pleasure to see your spontaneous reaction when you saw the selection table with some fifty glasses on display. In our correspondence I requested that you would bring your own glasses for practical reasons. I knew that you always wear contact lenses. This is quite often the case with professional models but most of them have glasses as well, just in case. It came as a surprise to me to hear that you did not have a pair of glasses in your current prescription. That problem was easily solved - several glasses on the table were exactly your prescription. May the photo shoot and the documentary give you inspiration to search for a pair of new glasses. Aside from the splendid posing it was amazing how many different frame styles really suit you. And last but not least, you have a pleasant personality which attributed to the good atmosphere. I wish you a glorious continuation of your professional modeling career and a brilliant future. Thank you so much!

This photo shoot with Tereza had been such a wonderful experience - it was difficult to stop snapping. But all good things must come to and end. Happy to meet, sorry to part.

These sunglasses gave Tereza perfect eyesight but light conditions in the park had clearly become unsuitable for photography. High time to head for Kodanska....
Tereza 107
A practical way to handle light problems is to edit the photos in black and white. In the case of the Nylor glasses this also gives a nostalgic touch. All amateur photography in the early 1960's was done in black and white.
Tereza 105
Many models are surprised to hear that these Nylor glasses are over twice their own age. Lovely Tereza was no exception.
Tereza 104
These classic Nylor glasses from the cat eye era were kindly presented to me by a man named Peter who attended the opening of my first exhibition with "Ladies behind crystal veil" in 2010. The glasses had belonged to his mother who died young. The Nylor pair immediately became a favorite among models and Tereza is the 20th who poses in this vintage gem.
Tereza 101
Marvelous posing by lovely Tereza. The expression is second to none. Again, the power rings in the lenses bring an additional attractive accent. There is no reason why girls and women should be shy about their strong glasses.

These rectangular transparent glasses with peach arms were another pleasant surprise in the Zenni catalog. They arrived just in time for use during a photo shoot in Flanders with a red haired model called Daisy. Ten models followed her example and now it's Tereza's turn to give the peach glasses a try. A perfect color blend, don't you think?
Tereza 096
"Now children, be quiet and pay attention to what I say!"
Wouldn't we all sit down and listen to school teacher Tereza?
Tereza 095
Just like the previous pair, bringing these square black glasses to Prague for Tereza was a bit of an experiment. But as you can see, it worked. It's easy to imagine Tereza in a role as a school teacher.
Tereza 094
These square glasses with massive arms were an instant hit among my early models in 2009. No less than seventeen models posed in them. A long time favorite model called Farishta surprised me when she arrived for her fourth photo shoot, still wearing these glasses after seven years. The reflection of the background in the arm of the glasses is a nice memento of the sunny morning with Tereza in the park.

My decision to bring at least some larger frames to Prague was inspired by two excellent videos on You Tube by a singer called Aly Art. A glasses wearer with a prescription of minus five, Alyona has come up with an interesting alternative for the classic thumb rules regarding frame selection. This video is called "Glasses for your face shape". The management summary in her presenttion: the PD is not necessarily a key factor. Even more revolutionary is her video called "Glasses for the body types". Not just the face but the entire body. Highly recommended for watching!
This fine portrait of lovely Tereza would certainly receive Aly's approval stamp.
Tereza 089
Tereza used the force of gravity to create this portrait. A slight tilt of the head was enough. One gets the impression that the frame is not too wide for her face.

These nicely decorated glasses were ordered from Zenni during the spring of 2012. Fashion had changed after the black hipster trend took over. Sigh of relief. Two dull decades of tiny retro frames were finally over. The uniformity of the black hipster frames did not bother me. It might well become a catalyst for more variety in large frames. Even today I regard the 1970's and 1980's as the classic peak in frame design.
It goes without saying that a new trend in fashion does not suit all facial shapes. Some designers of the golden decades were well aware of this and they kept supplying the brands with smaller frames as well. Brands like Rodenstock introduced identical frames in various sizes to accommodate clients with wide and narrow PD's alike.
This short lecture about frame design is given here as it played an important role during the initial selection of glasses for Tereza. But it can never do any harm to bring at least a few frames for a larger PD as well. The Zenni glasses shown here were part of the experiment and Tereza did not mind giving them a try.
Tereza 085
I remember this moment well. "Now one of your own, please....".
Tereza needed no further encouragement. She threw out this pose and expression in a split second.
Tereza 084
If my memory serves me correctly, this was the way Tereza reacted when I threw in the nickname "Spice Girl Glasses".
Tereza 083
Another Zenni pair ordered nine years ago as trial glasses for my first group of amateur models. The frame can best be described as "small but spicy". A dozen models posed in these glasses between 2009 and 2013. The spicy glasses surfaced again during the two day search for frames that might work well for Tereza.
Tereza 081
Another example of the subtle magic brought in by the power rings in the far corner of the lenses. A real crystal veil, don't you think?
Tereza 080
"Who is afraid of red, white and green?".
A great pensive mood pose, thrown in without any word spoken.
Tereza 079
Zenni often gives their frames a nice twist of their own. The color of the arms is a good example. They seem to be black at first sight but a touch of blue becomes visible in the sunlight.
A note about this particular pose may be useful to other photographers. Call it a trick of the trade. Tereza took directions extremely well and at an amazing speed. No word was spoken in the couple of seconds before snapping. Instead, Tereza was following the direction given by my right hand. The tilt was her automatic response to the movement of my wrist.
Tereza 078
Green is not widely regarded an advisable frame color.... unless you happen to be a red haired lady.
Tereza 076
One step aside, a turn to the left.... Taking this series in the tiny half rim glasses was like walking a tight rope. The contrast between light and shadow adds a touch of mystery to the slightly enigmatic expression in this portrait. Another series in which Tereza really shines as a model. Big compliment!
Tereza 074
Lots of editing went into this photo because of the merciless sunlight in the background but there was no way to leave it out. The expression in the model's eyes is simply priceless. Hat off for Tereza!
Tereza 073
Tereza was visibly curious about her looks in these tiny half rim pair during the selection phase in the apartment. It was charming to see the same curiosity here during the photo shoot.
Tereza 072
"Subtle and refined" is the best way to describe these tiny half rim glasses. A dozen models posed in them with often marvelous results. Here lovely Tereza joins their ranks in her own unique style.
Tereza 070
All good things must come to an end.... More glasses were eagerly waiting for their turn to grace Tereza's face. Stay tuned....
Tereza 069
Not to be outdone, the sun decided to join the party and create this beautiful portrait of lovely Tereza in perfect Zenni glasses.
Tereza 068
Needless to say I gave Teresa tons of compliments about her gorgeous looks in these Zenni glasses. First at the selection table in the apartment and again during the actual photo shoot.
Tereza 067
Tereza showing the power rings in the lenses of these perfect Zenni glasses. Minus eight is a very photogenic prescription and this is why over 100 Zenni pairs in my collection are fitted with it. There is no other way to show the attractiveness of frames. Feel free to disagree but this is my opinion. Using plano lenses or even worse, empty frames is showing only half the product eye professionals are trying to sell. Many girls and women frown upon the power rings in their glasses but in my view their looks would miss an aspect of liveliness if they only had a mild prescription. Power rings make the difference between an ordinary pair of glasses and a crystal veil.
