Hans Winkel was a well known optician in Amsterdam. His shop at the Rokin became a must for the rich and famous. One of the house rules was that not the client but the optician decided about the frame choice! That is, if the numerous stories are right....

These Gina Zanelli glasses have been in my collection for at least fifteen years but never featured in any photo shoot. Information about this brand from the past would be highly welcome. Whatever its history, these Zanelli glasses suit Dana's face perfectly. Her smile was a reaction on a well deserved  compliment from my side. The lens for her left eye is way too strong so the right eye is "leading" in this fine portrait.

The style of the 1980's was more airy and less experimental than the seventies, but the trend of large frames remained until 1988 when the retro era arrived. Silhouette was the absolute top brand during both decades, rivaled only by Christian Dior. My collection hosts over a hundred Silhouette glasses and the company kindly met my request to give the year of manufacture for twenty of them. The pair shown here gave Dana perfect eyesight. The glasses were only featured in two previous photo shoots, with Nanda (003) in 2010 and eight years later on a roasting hot summer day with Chanel.
