Chanel 101
Always save the best for the last.... Wonderful posing by beautiful Chanel to conclude this series in Da Vinci glasses made in 1981 or 1982.
More to follow soon!
Chanel 099
Lovely Chanel prefers large, airy frames and these "Ines" glasses by Da Vinci met her requirements. A beautiful combination indeed.
Chanel 098
Da Vinci designed stylish glasses during the early 1980's and this "Ines" pair is a glorious example. Chanel is the tenth model posing in the Ines glasses, being preceded by many acclaimed models: Carla 001, Elena 024, Margriet 022 (first weblog), Esther 074, Daisy 083, daughter Juliana 100 (second weblog), Iris 080, Mia 072 and Xenia 039 (third weblog).
Chanel 096
Another example of fine posing by beautiful Chanel to conclude this long series in Romeo & Juliet glasses from the 1980's.
Chanel 095
Sweet nostalgia. The 1970's and 1980's were fantastic times for glorious sightings in the streets and occasionally even in forests.
Chanel 094
No Romeo approaching yet, but for sure, many of them will succumb to the posing style and beauty of Chanel....
Chanel 093
The intense look in this fine portrait is second to none. Chanel took her photo shoot quite serious. The eye lashes were her own idea, accentuating the eyes to the max.
Chanel 091
Fine posing by Chanel in romantic glasses by Romeo & Juliet. The lenses are minus five but the -1.00 gap presented no problem whatsoever.
Chanel 088
Romeo & Juliet is quite a romantic name for a pair of glasses. This pair was a welcome discovery in one of many hospitable charity shops in the Hastings area, shortly before the turn of the Millennium.
Chanel 086
Another fine pose by lovely Chanel in Recé glasses made long before she was born. Young models are always surprised when they see a huge variety in styles that are not found in optician's shops anymore. Again, lots of editing went into this portrait. Leave it to elks or deer to pose with antlers or horns above their heads!
Chanel 085
The lenses in the Recé glasses are minus six and minus seven but Chanel was clearly not bothered by the gap. The lenses have a decent anti-reflective coating but a fair amount of editing was required to remove the abundant blackberry sticking through the model's head.
Chanel 084
This is the only example of work by Recé in my collection. Beautiful design with a touch of the cat eye style. The marble structure on the frame was introduced around 1990. A dozen models posed in these attractive glasses before Chanel. For comparison: Clarine 183, Rachel 067, Gita 152, Conny 039, Miele 034, Caroline 003 (first weblog), Margriet 219, Lucy 006, Marike 044 (second weblog), Sandra 162, Mia 087 and Nicci 057 (third weblog). Here lovely Chanel joins their ranks in her own distinguished style.
Chanel 081
Chanel studying the explication of the hidden treasures in a small nature conservation area behind my garden. It's nice to have a back garden like this available without doing any maintenance work. Unlike Priscilla who was merely pretending that she could read the text, Chanel enjoyed almost perfect eyesight through the Atrio glasses.
Chanel 080
My collection hosts several examples of Atrio glasses and this pair is one of the best. These glasses were bought in a hospitable charity shop in county Clare, Ireland. The only down side of the Atrio pair is the lack of anti-reflective coating on the lenses. This causes no problem when the sky is overcast but it calls for a careful choice of vantage points on a sunny afternoon, even in a forest. The location is familiar. The final part of my photo shoot with Priscilla was done at the same place.
Chanel 078
Time flies during a good photo shoot. Before heading to the nearby forest, beautiful Chanel treats us with this great pose. There is no way of telling that these are not her own glasses. Chanel is the 27th model posing in this piece of jewelry by Flair. Over the years, these glasses have almost become a testing piece for models. Hat off for Chanel!
Chanel 077
Bowing her head slightly down upon my request, Chanel is showing some more of the intricacies created by blended myodisc lenses. The warping effect in the corner of her right eye is created by the magnifying carrier lens. These extreme make up tricks come free for any girl in blended myodisc glasses. The lens in front of the model's left eye shows the position of the transition zone between the bowl and the carrier lens. The element of introspection in this portrait is quite attractive. Pensive mood.... Well done, Chanel!
Chanel 076
Glasses: Flair, early 1990's (blended myodisc lenses)
[L: -13.00; c-1.00 v / R: -14.00]
Chanel showing both sides of the coin. The lens in front of her left eye shows the massive "cut in" effect created by the strong prescription in the central bowl. The position of the surrounding carrier lens is also visible. By contrast, the lens in front of her right eye betrays none of its secrets.
Chanel 075
Glasses: Christian Olivier (Formlenti), 1980's
[L: -8.50; c-1.50 v / R: -10.00; c-1.50 v]
The first owner of these magnificent glasses could have bought a second hand car for the price of her new glasses. The frame is quite attractive and so are the lenses. Small wonder that two dozen models posed in these glasses before Chanel. Sadly, it's the only example of Christian Olivier design in my collection.
Chanel 074
Looking through the bowls presented no problem either for Chanel. It's just a matter of using one's imagination, pretending that everything is still crystal clear.
Chanel 073
Glasses: Gan Aimh (blended myodisc lenses)
[L: -11.50; c-1.00 v / R: -12.00; c-1.00 h]
Note that the model's eyes don't look tiny in this portrait. Bowing her head down upon my request, Chanel was looking through the transition zone towards the carrier lens.
Chanel 072
Glasses: Zenni 625616
[L: -11.00; c-1.25 v / R: -11.50; c-1.25 v]
It did not take Chanel long to deal with the fog created by the strong lenses. The -8 gap with her own prescription is simply too much. The brain tells the eyes that it's useless to try and accommodate. As a result, none of my 85 models ever suffered from headaches or a stronger prescription afterwards.
Chanel 070
No photo shoot with a new model is complete without the ritual of the Valentine glasses. Chanel had no problem with the -1.50 gap. Time for a brief experiment with stronger glasses....

Chanel 068
Transformation from glasses into sunglasses completed. It adds an element of mystery to those dark laser beam eyes. Hat off for Chanel and her excellent posing!
Chanel 067
The first owner of the Nina Ricci glasses was probably a lady in her early forties who went for her first progressives. It's fascinating to see how well these glasses match with a face from the next generation.
Chanel 066
This is the only example of Nina Ricci glasses in my entire collection and it would be great to come across a few more. I am clueless about how and where they were acquired but they were there when I started doing photo shoots in 2009.
Chanel 063
Another striking pose by beautiful Chanel in distinguished Nina Ricci glasses. No Sohaila echoes here.
Chanel 062
Like the preceding pair, these Nina Ricci glasses have photochromic lenses so we started this new series in my living room. Sixteen models posed in the Nina Ricci glasses before Chanel. When she struck this confident pose, it was like a split second "déjà vu" experience. High time to snap.... the show must go on. When the unedited image rolled out on my PC screen it dawned to me that my feeling had been right. There is more than a touch of the posing by the great Sohaila who was one of the very best models I ever worked with. Sohaila had "been everywhere, seen everything" so I was thrilled when she reacted on my first casting call for the Dublin area five years ago. Nobody at home gave a penny for my chances that she would turn up. But she was there alright and her photo shoot is still a vivid memory in my mind. Sohaila had exactly the same prescription as Chanel and she chose the Nina Ricci glasses for her photo shoot, delivering a splendid series. Each pose was a statement of its own. Total control. Could it be that one of the Sohaila portraits was taken from the same vantage point as Chanel's? So I checked the series in the Nina Ricci glasses. No similar vantage point at all. The only conclusion was that Chanel is posing here in the Sohaila vein. Chanel, this is probably the best compliment I can give you. Thanks!
Chanel 060
These highly unusual glasses caught my attention on the Waterlooplein flea market about thirty years ago. I never saw any frame like this before or afterwards. Whoever the first owner was, she must have really liked her glasses. They looked as if they had been worn constantly for many years. They are fitted with photochromic lenses. Chanel was clearly amused to see the glasses slowly turn into sunglasses when we walked out of the house. The lenses are only a touch below the model's own prescription.
Chanel 058
"Next time I want glasses with thin frames" was Chanel's conclusion after seeing her photos. Time may well be on her side, given the current change in fashion.
Chanel 056
These blue Rodenstock glasses were acquired in the central part of Ireland. They are a fine example of their "Junge Linie" (Young Line) mentioned earlier on. These glasses were featured in three previous photo shoots (Astrid 326, Margriet 178, Daisy 076).
